Full Time English Teachers

What do full-time Berkeley House teachers do?

We have two different types of Full Time English Teachers (1) Rotating full-timers who teach a variety of clients around Tokyo on a rotating schedule or (2) ‘Satellite’ English teachers who are dispatched to one or two of our business clients or as an ALT and teach on a fixed schedule.

Rotating full-timers will teach a variety of students, including: corporate office workers, professionals, university/college students, and junior high/high school students. Schedules will typically include a combination of intensive and extensive 1-to-1, semi-private, and group lessons.

Satellite teachers will exclusively teach (1) corporate clients General English, Business English, and ESP courses in 1-to-1 and semi-private lessons or (2) Junior High / High School students in ALT positions.

Remuneration and Benefits

What is the starting salary?
All full-time teachers start at the same base salary of 270,000 ¥ / month

Does Berkeley House provide accommodation?
Berkeley House can assist in finding furnished or unfurnished accommodation with no initial move-in fees (commonly required in Japan). Teachers are responsible for their own rent and utility payments. Depending on the location, rent ranges from 80,000- 100,000 yen per month including utilities.

What are the other benefits?

•National holidays (these depend on client calendars, so may fluctuate)

Job Description

What are the main duties?
•Teaching 25-32 hours per week.
•Administering Berkeley House level checks and helping assign textbooks based on language level and lesson focus.
•Keeping track of important lesson details on class Record Sheets. Submitting class and student reports by deadlines.
•Attending course orientations and development workshops.
•Regularly checking online lesson schedule system for updates and changes.
•Occasional academic support office work (proofing materials and manuals, etc.)

What is the work schedule?
Rotating teachers’ schedules change weekly (teachers are notified of their upcoming schedule on the previous Friday). Classes are scheduled on Monday – Friday, or Tuesday-Saturday with 25-29 contact hours. All teachers receive two consecutive days off and classes can be held between 9:00-21:00.

Satellite teachers are on a set weekly schedule. Contact hours are 25-32 hours per week and classes are scheduled Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday between usually between 8:00-19:00 with two consecutive days off.
