Middle School Science/Physics Teacher – January or April 2026 Start – Australian Curriculum (WACE)

We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified Physics teacher to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year, with a flexible start date of January or April 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Physics ATAR course to Years 11-12 students who are bilingual or native speakers of English. Additional responsibilities may include teaching Integrated Science to Middle School students (Years 7-9).

Primary Teaching Responsibilities

Years 11-12 WACE Physics ATAR Course:

Year 11: Unit 1 (Motion, forces and energy), Unit 2 (Waves, nuclear and electrical physics)

Year 12: Unit 3 (Gravity and relativity), Unit 4 (Electromagnetism and modern physics)

Preparing students for WACE external examinations

Integrating the three curriculum strands: Science Inquiry Skills, Science as a Human Endeavour, and Science Understanding

Potential Additional Responsibilities:

Teaching Integrated Science to Middle School students (Years 7-9)

Homeroom duties and pastoral care responsibilities

General Responsibilities

Planning and implementing physics lessons targeting specific concepts, models, and theories

Conducting extensive laboratory work and practical investigations to develop Science Inquiry Skills

Managing classroom behavior to keep all students engaged in scientific learning

Providing individual support and feedback for students at varying levels of physics understanding

Teaching PBL (Problem- and Project-Based Learning) style lessons

Facilitating hands-on investigations using scientific equipment safely and effectively

Developing students’ mathematical and analytical skills within physics contexts

Preparing comprehensive assessment tasks including science inquiry portfolios, tests, and examinations

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Education, or related field
  • Teaching License
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching physics at the high school level
  • Excellent understanding of mathematical applications in physics contexts
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and practical investigation design
  • Strong knowledge of Science Inquiry Skills methodology
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to create engaging lesson plans that promote scientific thinking and problem-solving
  • Proficient in technology use for instruction purposes, including data analysis software and simulation tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Physics or Physics Education
  • Experience with the Australian curriculum system (WACE)
  • Strong knowledge of the WACE Physics curriculum and assessment requirements
  • Experience with external examination preparation (WACE or similar systems)
  • Competency in teaching advanced physics concepts including relativity, quantum theory, and electromagnetism
  • Experience teaching international or ESL students
  • Familiarity with contemporary physics research and applications
  • Experience teaching integrated science at the middle school level
  • Knowledge of safety protocols for physics laboratories
