Head of Inclusion

Qualifications and Experience (Minimum):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in teaching with a specialisation in special education; or Bachelor’s Degree with a Post-Graduate Certificate or Diploma in special education
  • Knowledge of current educational theories and practices in inclusion approaches, child development and pedagogy
  • 5+ years experience in a learning support role in a nationally or internationally-accredited school
  • 4+ years experience in an IB school setting

General Competencies:

  • Native level English
  • Efficient level of IT literacy (experience in using GSuite for Education)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills, with an ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Ability to deal with issues of a highly confidential and sensitive nature
  • Ability to administer diagnostic tests
  • Ability to help create a safe space and environment within OYIS’ leadership teams

Leading and Managing Inclusion

  • Lead and manage the Inclusion, English as an Additional Language, and Counselling teams, ensuring their effectiveness in supporting students
  • Identify, coordinate, and monitor the support needs of students across the school, allocating resources in a fair and equitable way (including staff and timetables)
  • Collaborate with the Whole School Vice Principal and Curriculum Coordinators, to empower teachers and support staff to deliver high-quality planning, instruction, and assessment for all learners
  • Organise and coordinate the work of outside agents
  • Regularly review learning needs with teachers and parents
  • Provide pedagogical support for teachers
  • Liaise with the Whole School Vice Principal and Curriculum Coordinators to maintain and develop whole school  initiatives for Inclusion
  • Provide access to opportunities for professional learning for teaching staff
  • Maintain student files and notes on learning needs, and relevant database
  • Keep Principals fully informed about all matters related to learning and wellbeing needs across the school
  • Ensure support aligns with IB philosophy and programme updates

Leading Safeguarding

  • Serve as Designated Safeguarding Lead for safeguarding matters, keeping the Safeguarding Team fully informed of any reported concerns
  • Promote and support safeguarding practices within the school community
  • Ensure safeguarding practices are relevant, up-to-date, and tracked
  • Ensure the security and confidentiality of student safeguarding data
  • Attend Safeguarding Team meetings, supervision sessions and parent meetings as needed

Supporting Admissions

  • Support the Admissions Officer with the admissions process
  • Interview and assess prospective children, advising the Principals on appropriate placement
  • Ensure relevant support plans are in place within the first weeks of school for relevant students.
