Overview:
The IB PYP Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for facilitating a dynamic and engaging learning environment that nurtures the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of young children aged 1.5 to 6 years old. The teacher will implement the IB PYP curriculum, fostering a love for learning and encouraging students to become inquisitive, reflective, and responsible global citizens.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Implementation:
Design and deliver a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the IB PYP framework.
Plan, prepare, and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities that promote inquiry-based learning.
Integrate interdisciplinary units that encourage students to make connections across subjects.
2. Classroom Management:
Establish a safe, supportive, and stimulating classroom environment.
Use positive behavior management strategies to guide student behavior.
Foster an inclusive classroom culture where every student feels valued and respected.
3. Student Assessment:
Conduct formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
Provide regular feedback to students and parents regarding academic performance and personal development.
Maintain accurate records of student progress in line with school policies.
4. Parent and Community Engagement:
Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about their child’s learning and development.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
Engage with the broader school community to support the school’s mission and vision.
5. Professional Development:
Stay updated on the latest IB PYP practices and early childhood education methodologies.
Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities provided by the school or external organizations.
Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and develop innovative teaching strategies.
6. Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work closely with other teachers and staff to ensure a cohesive and consistent approach to learning.
Contribute to the development of school-wide initiatives and curriculum planning.
Support the school’s goals and objectives by participating in collaborative planning meetings.
7. Cultural Sensitivity:
Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of diverse cultural backgrounds, particularly in the context of an international environment in Japan.
Integrate cultural awareness into the curriculum and classroom activities.
8. Qualifications and Skills:
・Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, or a related field. IB PYP certification or training is highly desirable.
・Experience:
Two years of experience teaching in an IB PYP setting or an international kindergarten is preferred.
・Language Skills:
Proficiency in English is essential. Knowledge of Japanese is an advantage but not mandatory.
・Interpersonal Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
・Creativity and Innovation:
Ability to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that inspire curiosity and a love for learning.
・Adaptability:
Flexibility to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners and adjust to the unique cultural context of Japan.
9. Working Conditions:
Hours: Full-time position with regular school hours and occasional evenings or weekends for school events or meetings.
